About this artwork

This was painted at Muthill in Perthshire, where the artist lived from 1881 until 1887. Tonal subjects showing early morning or late evening were popular amongst Scottish artists at the turn of the century. Many of Wingate's landscape subjects show typical occupations in the farming year.
